Welcome back to Té Cuento! This weekly reflection gives you the tea on how my week went. Thank you to folks who have been telling me they enjoy these, I really appreciate it. Now let’s get into the té.
Té Cuento How My Week Went
Sipping on: Dreaming of You Latte
One of the local coffee shops has a Valentine’s Day Menu and I tried it out this week (no pics) but it was so good. It was strawberry and cinnamon chai latte, iced of course. It was delicious!
Reading: The Invisible Kingdom: Reimagining Chronic Illness by Meghan O'Rourke
My friend and I started reading this book and there’s so much to unpack in just the few chapters. I am going to make a separate post about this but the thing that’s sticking out from the read so far is that this is the body’s response to stress from living in a world that is in disharmony from nature. More on that later.
Mi Tele-Vicio: Apple Cider Vinegar
In addition to Kendrick Lamar’s Halftime Show - How many times did you watch it? I watched it a few times and hav been listening to his discography this whole week. I also watched all of Apple Cider Vinegar because - what was that?! I am so tired of scamming culture but this one really pissed me off because of the harm and lives that could have suffered, and lost because of her. I actually wrote about it this week, and reflected on a lot of things. It actually ended up bringing up some of my family’s journey with my Titi Almin who died of cancer after a very long battle. Check out if you’d like.
Grooving to: Kendrick Lamar’s full discography.
Literally from the beginning to now, I have been playing him on repeat. Something intresting is happening too, because I’m listening to some songs for the first time in YEARS there are lyrics and double meanings that I’m realizing now that I didn’t before.
One example is in Element off the Damn album. In the intro when Kid Capri says “Y'all know, what happens on Earth stays on Earth” hits sooo different than it did in 2017. Everything we do on earth, in this one lifetime stays here. So that’s what it’s so key to do your big one on this one time on earth.
I’m planning on like documenting my whole listening experience - let me know if this is something you’d be interested in reading.
Favorite Thing que Comí: Salmon Rice Bowl
There’s this little restaurant here called Sushi Madre and I got this salmon bowl with oyster sauce that was SO GOOD. I will be adding it to the rotation this week - hyper fixation meal loading?
Lo bueno y lo malo:
Lo Bueno: I left the house and went to a galentine’s event this week. it was so cute, grateful for the one friend I’m becoming close with that I made with the advice from my therapist. Go to an event you like to find like minded people - it worked yall!
Lo Malo: The news this week was really really hard for me. There’s so many scary things going on, so many people being affected, it’s very east to give into the energy of fear, which I almost did this week. I was able to come out of it with some perspective aka doing a vibe check with my friends and remembering that even en lo malo hay algo pa celebrar.
Me Siento: Hopeful
After I calmed down from the week I scaled it back to focus on just the things I can control, the news that is not so sensational (All Sides News), my community and the fact that my birthday is coming up! It’s a milestone birthday and I am focusing on being intentional with my celebration this year. I plan to start the day with a breath work class (hosted by Melanie Santos), journaling and getting my birthday freebies.
Cómo Me Cuidé: I moved my body!
Girl it’s been hard as hell to get into a movement routine since coming back from my travels and tiptoeing the line to crashing out. But I got grounded, got focused and listened to what my body needed. Movement is always something I struggle with because it’s not my fave so it takes a bit of extra energy to get me going with it. The good thing is that we have unlimited opportunities to keep starting a goal like movement so I keep starting over and over and over and over again because who’s going to judge me, definitely not me. My goal right now is a 4 week peloton streak which is super flexible because at minimum I will do a workout 1x a week and at max I'll do 7x a week either way it’s a win win! I’ve written about movement before check it out here.
